CPI(M) Leader Alleges Intimidation by Tipra Motha During TTAADC Polls

Agartala, April 12: Radhacharan Debbarma, former Chief Executive Member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council and a leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Sunday alleged that the Tipra Motha Party created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation during the ongoing District Council elections.

Speaking after casting his vote, Debbarma claimed that in the Jirania constituency of West District, polling agents from his party were prevented from entering certain polling stations and were forcibly driven out since the morning hours.

He said he had to personally intervene to ensure that party agents could gain access to at least one polling station. According to him, party workers of Tipra Motha had been issuing threats to CPI(M) polling agents since the previous day, leaving them under stress. Despite these allegations, he noted that voters were still turning out to cast their ballots.

Debbarma further alleged that the use of muscle power began during the nomination phase itself, which he described as unacceptable, adding that an environment of fear and unrest had been deliberately created.

He also stated that, so far, no allegations had been levelled against the Bharatiya Janata Party in connection with the conduct of the polls.
