Manipur CM Flags Off Advanced Police Vehicles Under Modernisation Drive

Imphal, May 25: Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday flagged off newly acquired advanced vehicles for the Manipur Police Department as part of the state government’s police modernisation initiative.

The ceremony took place at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal in the presence of Govindas Konthoujam, Rajiv Singh, Puneet Kumar Goel and other senior officials.

Addressing the gathering, the chief minister commended the role of the police force during the ongoing conflict situation in the state and said the department had made significant contributions towards maintaining law and order. He also acknowledged the achievements of police personnel in sports alongside their operational responsibilities.

Khemchand expressed concern over incidents of violence during protests and agitations, stating that while citizens have the democratic right to demonstrate, such activities should not turn violent.

Speaking at the programme, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said nearly 400 advanced vehicles had been inducted under the police modernisation programme and would help improve the force’s mobility and operational effectiveness.

He also appreciated the efforts of the Director General of Police in procuring advanced weapons and equipment aimed at strengthening policing capabilities across the state.

According to the Home Minister, 54 per cent of the newly inducted vehicles will be deployed in hill districts, while the remaining 46 per cent will be utilised in valley regions.

Konthoujam further stated that additional sophisticated equipment would be procured to strengthen cybercrime investigations and improve the state’s capacity to deal with technology-related offences. Referring to the issue of six hostages, he said the government was engaged in discussions with civil society organisations and that operations related to the matter were continuing.
