Delhi: Indian para-athletics superstar Sumit Antil once again etched his name in history by breaking his own world record in the men’s javelin throw F64 event at the Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships 2026 in Bengaluru. The two-time Paralympic gold medallist produced a stunning throw of 74.82 metres in his fifth attempt, surpassing his previous world record of 73.29m set during the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou. The 27-year-old athlete from Haryana has continued his dominance in para-athletics, further strengthening his reputation as one of India’s greatest para-sports champions. Reacting to the historic feat, Antil said he had been waiting for this moment for nearly three years and expressed happiness at finally breaking his previous mark. Antil has enjoyed an extraordinary run over the past few years, winning gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Paralympic Games while also claiming World Para Athletics Championship titles in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Competing in the F64 category, which includes athletes with lower limb impairments using prosthetics, Antil has repeatedly rewritten record books since entering para-athletics following a tragic road accident in 2015 that resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee. With his latest world record, Sumit Antil has once again underlined India’s growing strength in global para-athletics and raised expectations ahead of upcoming international competitions.
