Arunachal Pradesh delivered an impressive performance at the 2nd North East Para Games 2025 in Guwahati, securing second place in the overall medal tally with a total of 84 medals. The contingent earned 23 gold, 31 silver, and 30 bronze medals, marking one of the state’s strongest showings at a regional para-sport event. Chief Minister Pema Khandu described the achievement as a historic milestone and praised the athletes for their determination and excellence.
In a message shared on X, Khandu congratulated the entire team, noting that their efforts brought immense pride to the state. He highlighted the range of talent displayed across disciplines and said the performance reflected the “courage, talent and unwavering spirit” of Arunachal’s para-athletes. The Chief Minister also acknowledged the contributions of coaches and the Paralympic Association of Arunachal, stating that their support played a crucial role in the success.
Khandu further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for para-athletes, emphasising that such accomplishments would motivate emerging sportspersons across the state. The result, he said, demonstrated the growing impact of structured training, improved facilities, and sustained encouragement for differently abled athletes.
The second edition of the North East Para Games, organised by the Assam Sports and Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with the Paralympic Committee of India, brought together para-athletes from all Northeastern states. Events were held at multiple venues in Guwahati and featured competitions in athletics, swimming, badminton, archery, powerlifting, table tennis, boccia and several other disciplines. This year’s tournament recorded significantly higher participation than its inaugural edition in 2023, reflecting rising investment and interest in para-sport development across the region.
Arunachal Pradesh’s remarkable medal haul stands as a testament to the state’s expanding sporting ecosystem and the growing recognition of para-athletes who continue to break barriers and inspire with their achievements.
