In a significant blow to narcotics trafficking, Cachar Police in Assam have recovered 388 grams of heroin valued at around ₹2.20 crore and arrested three youths during a late-night operation on Tuesday, December 16. The seizure was made after police intercepted a vehicle entering the district from a neighbouring state based on specific intelligence inputs.
During a detailed search of the intercepted car, officers recovered the contraband concealed inside 30 soap cases, which had been carefully hidden in different compartments of the vehicle. Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das confirmed that the heroin was stashed in a specially designed secret chamber of the vehicle bearing registration number MZ-02C-1553.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Dildar Hussain (25), Nazrul Hussein (20), and Jasim Uddin (25), all residents of Bhanga Bazar under the Dholai police station area. Preliminary findings indicate that the heroin consignment was being transported to Guwahati.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against the accused under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, while further investigation is underway to trace the wider network involved in the trafficking operation. SSP Das stated that the crackdown reflects the police department’s continued commitment to dismantling drug supply chains operating in the region.
The latest seizure follows another major success by Cachar Police just a day earlier, when a truck was intercepted at Rongpur, leading to the recovery of 90,000 Yaba tablets estimated to be worth ₹26 crore. Two individuals were arrested in that case, highlighting an intensified enforcement drive against narcotics smuggling in the district.
