Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has said the Northeast has witnessed remarkable transformation over the last 12 years, with major improvements in connectivity, infrastructure and economic prospects reshaping the region.
In a series of posts on X, Mein said consistent investments and focused policies had helped change the image of the Northeast from a region grappling with connectivity issues into what he described as a centre of peace, opportunity and economic advancement.
He highlighted several infrastructure achievements, including more than 96 per cent railway electrification, universal household electrification, the development of eight greenfield airports and the expansion of railway connectivity. According to him, these initiatives have enhanced regional integration and accelerated socio-economic development.
Mein noted that Arunachal Pradesh has particularly benefited from large-scale infrastructure projects, which have improved road, rail and air connectivity while creating fresh opportunities for tourism, investment and economic growth.
Among the projects he singled out was the Sela Tunnel, which now ensures year-round access to Tawang. He said the tunnel has overcome a longstanding problem caused by heavy snowfall that frequently disrupted transportation in the region.
Stating that improved connectivity represents one of the most significant changes in the Northeast over the past decade, Mein said modern infrastructure, expanding railway networks and landmark bridges have brought communities closer and opened up new opportunities.
He added that better roads, railways, waterways and welfare initiatives have contributed to more inclusive development, while upgraded infrastructure has stimulated tourism and economic activity across the region.
Describing the Northeast as an important pillar of India’s growth story, Mein attributed the transformation to sustained development initiatives and investments undertaken over the last 12 years.
