Security Forces Arrest Militants, Seize Arms and Destroy Bunkers in Manipur Operations

Imphal, June 17: Security forces intensified enforcement and counter-insurgency operations across Manipur over the past two days, resulting in several arrests, seizure of arms and contraband, and the destruction of fortified bunkers in multiple districts.

On June 16, security personnel arrested 45-year-old RY Ambison, a resident of Utonglok in Kangpokpi district, from Gamgiphai Naka under Sapermeina Police Station. During the operation, officials seized 160 litres of DIC liquor and an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number MN01Z-1749.

In another operation on the same day, security forces apprehended Yumnam Seityajit Mangang, 36, a resident of Khurai Puthiba Leikai and currently residing at Sambei Kangtak in Imphal East district. A .22 calibre revolver along with nine live rounds of .22 ammunition was recovered from his possession.

On June 15, two active cadres of the banned RPF/PLA were arrested from separate locations in Imphal West district. The arrested individuals were identified as Mutum Mohen Singh, 29, originally from Oinam Mamang Leikai in Bishnupur district and presently residing at Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Mayai Leirak, and Sanayaima Leichombam, also known by several aliases including Quinton and Leirangjao, 50, a resident of Leimaram Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district. He was apprehended from the Lamphel Sanakeithel area.

Security personnel also continued efforts to dismantle fortified positions in hill areas. On June 16, fourteen bunkers were destroyed, including five along the Mogkot Chepu–Patlijang hill stretch and nine along the Lungphu Junction–Industrial Estate Centre hill stretch. Two empty cases of 5.56 mm ammunition were recovered during the operation.

Earlier, on June 15, security forces demolished twelve bunkers under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district. These included two bunkers along the Shangkai–Mongkot Chepu villages hill stretch and ten bunkers along the Leingangching–Sikibung village hill stretch.

Items recovered during the operations included a binocular, twenty-one empty cartridge cases of different weapons and eight live rounds of SBBL ammunition. Officials said the operations are part of continuing efforts to maintain law and order and curb insurgency-related activities in the state.
