Shillong, April 28: Dominant performances from Shillong Lajong FC, Nangkiew Irat SC and Khimusniang SC highlighted matchday action on April 27 in the fifth Meghalaya State League, even as closely contested fixtures and adverse weather conditions added complexity across groups.
Persistent heavy rainfall across Meghalaya disrupted playing conditions, forcing the postponement of the Group F match between Lawbah SC and Mishon SSCC in Mairang due to an unplayable pitch. Officials are expected to reschedule the fixture.
Group H saw two goalless draws that tightened the standings. In Mawkyrwat, Mawlarshong SC held Rangdajied United FC, the 2023 champions, to a 0-0 draw, maintaining an unbeaten record against them this season following an earlier 1-1 result. In Williamnagar, Janepih YSCA were held to a similar stalemate by Balmanduri FC, dropping points for the first time after three consecutive wins.
A dramatic turnaround unfolded in Group D, where Thangskai Tiger SC came from behind to defeat Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC 2-1 in Khliehriat. After a goalless first half, Thomas Dkhar gave Jalaphet the lead, but late goals from Wendi Markson Nongtdu and Solmon Sympli secured victory for Thangskai.
In Group C, Amlarem SC maintained control with a 3-1 win over Lamin XI SCC. Early strikes from Iaid Da Kyrmen Jungai and Marshial Nongrum set the tone, with Nongrum adding a second before Lamin XI pulled one back late in the match.
Elsewhere, leading teams asserted their dominance. Shillong Lajong FC delivered a commanding 5-0 win over Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC in Wahiajer, scoring four goals in the second half. At the MFA Ground in Shillong, Nangkiew Irat SC matched that margin against Mawlum Tyrsad SCC, with substitute Wallamsuk Nongkhlaw netting a late hat-trick.
The biggest result of the day came in Group A, where Khimusniang SC thrashed Umkaber SCC 9-0 at the SSA Stadium in Shillong. Primrose Lamat scored twice to take his tally to nine goals in the competition, as multiple scorers contributed to a one-sided encounter.
With weather interruptions and unexpected draws influencing results, the league standings remain competitive across several groups despite the continued dominance of top teams.
