The sudden action triggered panic among habitual violators, who later had to pay hefty fines to get the locks removed. Officials expect the measure to bring significant relief to the common pedestrians as well as to the town’s persistent traffic jams. The initiative was formally launched yesterday when District Commissioner Devashish Sharma handed over ‘wheel tyre lock clamps’ to Traffic Sub-Inspector Jiten Kumar Dutta at the DC’s office. The event was attended by Nagaon Municipal Board Executive Officer Pankaj Bhuyan.

District Information and Public Relations Officer Bikash Sarma said the step aims to streamline traffic management and tighten road safety in the town. Provided by the District Road Safety Committee, the tyre lock clamps will now be used in Nagaon town and along the four-lane Nagaon bypass. Any truck or vehicle found parked illegally will have its wheels locked, and violators will face large fines and legal action.  District Commissioner Devashish Sharma has urged all Nagaon residents to follow traffic rules and extend full cooperation to the district administration to keep the town free from traffic congestion.
