Pema Khandu Praises Yak Mela 2026 for Promoting Conservation and Frontier Community Welfare

Itanagar, May 29: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has lauded the Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps for organising Yak Mela 2026 at Chuna High Ground, describing the initiative as an important step towards preserving the Himalayan ecosystem and supporting communities living in remote border regions.

Sharing his remarks on X, Khandu said it was “heartening” to witness efforts aimed at yak conservation, promotion of indigenous traditions and strengthening engagement with frontier villagers through the event organised at an altitude of 14,000 feet.

The Chief Minister said the mela showcased the resilience, spirit and rich cultural identity of Arunachal Pradesh’s border communities while helping sustain traditional livelihoods associated with yak rearing in high-altitude areas.

Khandu also appreciated the medical camp conducted for residents of Mago and Hydel villages, calling it a strong example of cooperation between civil authorities and the armed forces in delivering services to people residing in difficult terrain.

He further commended the collaborative efforts of the National Research Centre on Yak, local residents and the Indian Army in preserving traditional heritage and promoting the welfare and empowerment of frontier communities in the state.
