Sikkim Woman Killed in Bengaluru, Partner Arrested; Separate Murder Case Reported in Karnataka’s Koppal

A 22-year-old woman from Sikkim was allegedly murdered by her partner in Bengaluru’s Bellandur area on June 13, with police arresting the accused following the incident.

The victim, identified as Ati Hangma Subba, was employed as a receptionist at a salon in Bengaluru. The accused, Purba Lepcha, a native of Darjeeling, worked as a waiter at a hotel in the city. According to police, the couple had shifted to Bengaluru about a month ago and had been living together in Doddakanahalli.

Investigators said preliminary findings indicated that an argument broke out between the two after Lepcha allegedly suspected Subba of maintaining contact with another man. During the altercation, he allegedly attacked her with a kitchen knife, resulting in her death after her throat was slit.

Bellandur Police have registered a case and taken the accused into custody. Further investigation into the incident is continuing.

In a separate case from Karnataka’s Koppal district, police are investigating the murder of a woman whose body was discovered inside an under-construction house in Kanakagiri town.

According to investigators, the crime occurred between 7 pm and 10.15 pm on June 8. Police alleged that the accused subsequently attempted to destroy evidence by setting the victim’s body on fire using a blanket.

The case was registered at Kanakagiri Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after a complaint was filed by Sanganegowda Malipatil.

During the investigation, police found that the deceased had been in a relationship with a 30-year-old man from Kushtagi taluk. They alleged that the accused had brought the woman to the under-construction building on the night of the incident, where a dispute broke out between them.

Police said the man allegedly assaulted the woman with a brick, killing her before trying to conceal the crime by setting the body ablaze. Investigators have seized the blanket allegedly used in the incident along with other material evidence.

As the accused belongs to a different community, provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have also been invoked. Further legal proceedings are under way.
